Maharashtra Education Society’s Abasaheb Garware College is one of the premier institutions of higher education in and around Pune, imparting the education from undergraduate to research level. Started in 1945 in a small building on Bhandarkar road, the college moved to its present premises in the year 1955 and flourished.

Presently the strength of the students is five thousand taking education in Arts and Science faculties. Under Arts faculty, the subjects taught are English (compulsory and optional), Marathi, Hindi, Sanskrit, History, Geography, Politics, Economics, Psychology, Sociology, Logic, Philosophy, Psychology and Education. Out of these subjects, Sanskrit, Logic, Philosophy and Education are taught at ‘General’ level only, while all other subjects are taught at ‘Special’ level.  Under science faculty the subjects taught at undergraduate level are Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Electronic Sciences, Computer Science, Biotechnology and Microbiology.

Postgraduate education is available in Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science and Microbiology. We also have an innovative program of M. Sc. in Biodiversity, sanctioned by the UGC. The Bachelor of Library Science and Information Science is a postgraduate degree course run by the college and it is likely that the courses M. Sc. Biotechnology, M. Sc. Electronic Sciences, M. Lib. And Information Science will be starting very soon; probably from the current academic year. As far as research is concerned, many teachers are engaged in active research.
